(Job #547367) Student Services Professional II, Basic Needs and Off-Campus Coordinator, Salary Range: $5,083 - $7,228 monthly. Hiring Range: $5,083 - $5,338 monthly. This is a temporary, full-time, benefited, exempt, 12-month pay plan position in the Dean of Students Office. Position Summary:
Under the oversight of the Associate Dean of Students, this position is responsible to serve as a resource to students and other campus stakeholders and as a primary single point of first contact for students, staff, and faculty with questions about available basic needs resources including but not limited to food, housing security, and psychological support. This position will also assist in providing case management under the CARE program. To effectively serve in this capacity, this individual is expected to engage in campus outreach, meetings with campus and community leaders, and one-on-one contact with students. This position will serve on the campus Basic Needs committee and related committees and have leadership in leading creation and changes to campus wide basic needs initiatives. In addition, this position will oversee the Rapid Rehousing and Housing Security Program grant, lead the Rapid Rehousing and Housing Security committee and work collaboratively with the community-based organization in coordinating services associated with the grant. This position will have a strong relationship with relevant off-campus entities and will be tasked to develop and maintain relationships intended to bridge communication gaps and identify community resources that our students can access for their Basic Needs. This position will assist new students in finding safe and affordable housing off-campus and helps current students transition from on-campus to off-campus and establish relationships with property managers and landlords, working with students, faculty, staff and community members to develop connections and advocate for housing needs.
Key Responsibilities:
Basic Needs Coordination - 20%
- Serve as a single point of first contact for students, staff, faculty, and other stakeholders with questions about available basic needs related resources.
- Enhance infrastructure to increase the University's capacity to implement, sustain, and improve the support of basic need resources services with the purpose of supporting a comprehensive approach to supporting students.
- Regular assessment and reporting on program demand, utilization, and capacity in the areas of basic needs, to include collecting, entering, and producing reports on program outcome data.
- Work with on and off-campus stakeholders and analyze data to identify gaps in resources for the campus and our local community around basic needs.
- Assist in the creation and implementation of policies, procedures, and guidelines related to basic needs (e.g. on-campus cooking facilities/resource, access to lockers, showers, sleeping areas, etc.).
- Refer students to Oh Snap Student Food Programs and assist students with navigation of the Emergency Swipe Assistance Program and CalFresh eligibility when appropriate.
- Attend regular meetings as assigned, including Student Affairs/Enrollment Management division-wide meetings, all campus-wide Basic Needs committees, etc.
- Provide supplemental case management support to the Campus Assistance, Response, and Engagement (CARE) program.
Basic Needs and Housing Security Community Relations – 25%
- Comprehensive tracking and dissemination of available resources in areas related to basic needs and housing security.
- Develop and maintain relationships with off-campus social services, non-profits, and community agencies.
- Create on and off-campus outreach events for students related to accessing basic needs resources.
- Attend community events that promote and inform stakeholders about basic needs and housing security resources.
Rapid Rehousing and Housing Security Program (RRHHSP) Coordination – 25%
- Ensure compliance of the RRHHSP grant.
- Attend monthly statewide meetings of the RRHHSP Community of Practice and Basic Needs Board of Directors.
- Develop processes and systems to connect students with resources associated with the RRHHSP grant.
- Compile data from the surveys and share with applicable stakeholders.
- Complete annual legislative report to review the progress of the RRHHSP grant with collaboration of the CARE Coordinator
- Oversee the RRHHSP committee meetings and collaborate with committee members on resources.
- In collaboration with the CBO (community-based organization), develop programs and referral process to support RRHHSP grant recipients.
Off-Campus Housing Coordination – 25%
- Provides advocacy and support for students, faculty and staff seeking housing off campus.
- Community partner outreach with landlords and property managers.
- Administrative maintenance of resources, newsletters, and daily communications along with tracking activities
- Provides lead oversight and trains Student Assistant for email, phone response and communications related to basic needs.
Other Duties as Assigned – 5%

- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, CSU administrators, student organizations, private and public agencies and others in committee work, and student advising and community contacts;
- Ability to rapidly acquire a general knowledge of the overall operation, functions and programs of the campus to which assigned.
- Demonstrated ability to make decisions and carry through actions having implications with regard to other program or service areas Services Office.
- Knowledge of local community resources for housing.
- Ability to advocate for student housing needs.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Experience: Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth. A master’s degree in a job‑related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience.
- Education: Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job‑related field. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year‑for‑year basis.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Basic knowledge of local housing market.
- Basic knowledge of tenant/landlord laws.
