Job Summary
Reporting to and under general direction of the Director of Operations, with additional lead work direction from the Dean, College of Science, Technology and Business, the Health Professions Advisor (Health Advisor) performs complex professional student services work and supports the School of Nursing (SoN) and Department of Kinesiology advising program. The incumbent is responsible for recognizing program needs and for developing approaches for possible implementation to meet these needs while conducting administrative planning to develop creative solutions which integrate approaches across organizational lines. The incumbent utilizes a high degree of judgment, persuasiveness, imagination and professional skills, as well as a general understanding of interrelationships to provide advising services to students which includes coordination with faculty, leadership, and other Student Services areas, such as the Advising Center, Orientation, and Academic Programs.
Key Qualifications
This position requires the equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field, including or supplemented by upper division or graduate coursework in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution where such are job-related. Possession of the knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience. One year in the program area to which assigned may be preferred but is not required. A master’s degree in Counseling, Clinical psychology, Social Work or a job-related field may be substituted for one year of experience. Intermediate proficiency with computers, Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel) and Google Suite as well as ability to use and quickly learn new office support technology systems and software packages is required. Experience with PeopleSoft, LoboConnect, and/or other advising software or CRM is highly preferred.
Salary and Benefits
Starting salary placement depends on qualifications and experience and is anticipated to be in the range of $5,540 to $5,761 a month. This is a full time, temporary, exempt position. Reappointment to this position is dependent upon the individual's performance as well as administrative and budgetary considerations. The university reserves the right to terminate this appointment earlier than the scheduled expiration date.
This position is eligible for a broad range of benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurances, retirement (CalPERS), tuition waiver, vacation and sick leave. In addition, 15 paid holidays are offered each year and a Personal Holiday that may be taken any time during the year.
