Capital Programs and Facilities Management (CPFM) is committed to planning, developing, and maintaining a safe, sustainable, and high-quality learning and working environment for the campus community. Facilities Management provides oversight of university resources and assets and is responsible for the development of the University’s facilities including land use planning, capital improvement, project development, construction, as well as facilities operations and maintenance including custodial services, landscape services, building trade services, mechanical and electrical, and recycling services. We seek an exceptional individual to join our Facilities Management and Administration team as the Building Trades Manager (Administrator II). The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude, an active, energetic mind, and a leadership style that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to inclusivity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

Duties and Responsibilities
|
Under the direction of the Director of Facilities Management, or their designee, the Building Trades Manager will oversee and provide work direction to the building trades staff in Facilities Management to ensure the adequate operation and maintenance of all university buildings and related facilities and equipment on campus. The Building Trades Manager has expertise in all aspects of maintenance, repair, construction and renovation of various facilities and structures and is responsible for planning and coordinating the work of skilled multi-trade crafts workers to perform the work. Through strong and resourceful leadership, the Building Trades Manager carries initiatives to ensure the safety of the campus community while developing, recommending, and implementing sound solutions to complex problems. The Building Trades Manager is a strategic thinker, inclusive leader, and supports the mission, goals, and strategic plan of the division and university. Demonstrates integrity, complex problem solving, and has the expertise in planning and organizing the day-to-day operations of the building trades, motivating staff, and ensuring the effective and efficient allocation of staffing, materials, and equipment using methods that reflect high quality work and accountability. This position will oversee and manage contractors and vendors, minor modernization, restoration, and maintenance projects. Will act as a liaison with customers, develop systems to accomplish goals, monitor budgets and purchasing, monitor work orders, and verify work completion. Other duties as assigned.

Essential Qualifications
|
Demonstrated experience in a leadership role in a large facility with a minimum of five (5) years’ experience and the ability to motivate and supervise the work of staff including trades and non-trades personnel covered by a collective bargaining agreement; train, evaluate performance and recommend appropriate personnel actions. Knowledge of methods, materials, tools, equipment, policies, procedures, principles, practices, and Industrial safety rules applicable in building trades construction, maintenance, and repair work. Ability to plan, estimate, schedule and supervise the work of others. Ability to communicate with individuals at all levels of the organization. Excellent customer service skills. Experience with computer applications related to Facilities Management. A working knowledge of laws and regulations governing Public Works, design and construction ordinances, and other regulations applicable to building, construction, maintenance, and repair including building codes for the State of California, fire codes, accessibility requirements, Title 24 requirements, and other industry standards.
A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to complete the background check satisfactorily may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

Preferred Qualifications
|
Demonstrated skills in an institutional/educational environment utilizing a customer-oriented and service-centered attitude. Familiarity with Computer Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) software.
