JOB SUMMARY

The Department of Special Education, Rehabilitation and Counseling at California State University, San Bernardino invites applications for the part-time lecture pool in Counseling. The Master of Science in Counseling program that houses three distinct concentrations: professional counseling,school counseling and dual. These prepare students for the PPS credential, LPCC licensure, or both, leading to diverse career opportunities in education and clinical settings.  In addition, we offer undergraduate Minor in Counseling and Social Change, as this minor intends to offer an interdisciplinary approach that invites students to explore the ways social and political contexts shape people’s experiences, relationships, and the stories that shape us. We are seeking energetic and innovative candidates who have a background in counseling and/or school counseling with particular interest and practice in postmodern counseling with emphasis on equity, social justice, restorative justice, and culturally sustaining approaches. Bilingual applicants and those with multicultural experience are strongly encouraged to apply.

Successful candidates will be able to complete one or more of the following tasks: 1) teach courses in counseling and 2) provide high-quality supervision and mentoring to students in their field experience in counseling. Course instructors will be responsible for planning and delivering instruction for their courses, grading, and providing input on student progress to the program coordinator and department chair. Most courses are taught in person at the San Bernardino campus, with the opportunity to teach at Palm Desert. Clinically intensive and supervision courses are in person, while some didactic courses are offered in hybrid or online formats.

Qualified candidates must demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring a diverse student population and to working effectively with faculty, staff and students across a wide range of disciplines. Candidates are encouraged to review the program courses and list potential courses of interest based on their experience and expertise.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

  • The minimum requirements are a master’s degree in counseling or closely related field and licensure in LPCC, MFT, MSW and/or PPS credential with expertise in counseling and advanced counseling skills.
  • Evidence of exemplary graduate-level teaching and leadership experience at program level is preferred and should be noted in application.
  • Applicants must be currently engaged in counseling and/or direct relevant work for clinical counseling intensive courses, such as but not limited to, crisis and trauma informed practices, justice-involved communities, substance use disorders, child and family welfare, disability approaches and neurodivergent populations.
  • University Supervisor/Clinical Supervisor applicants must hold the applicable California credential (i.e., PPS in Counseling) or licensure (i.e., LPCC) and have more than 2 years of experience as a counselor in the field.
  • All applicants should possess excellent written and oral communication skills and a commitment to fostering diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • Evidence of engagement and leadership in the counseling field is valued and should be noted in application.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.

Following a conditional offer of employment, a background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate may start work with CSUSB.
