Position: Assistant Professor School Psychology
Effective Date: August 17, 2027 (Fall Semester)
Salary Range: The Assistant Professor (2027) classification salary is $74,652 to $158,688 per year. The anticipated hiring range is $85,000 to $95,000 per year for the Assistant Professor level. Salary offered is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Department of Advanced Studies in Education and Counseling (ASEC)

 Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. or PsyD. in School Psychology. Degree at time of application or official notification of completion of the doctoral degree by August 1, 2027.
  • California Pupil Personnel Services School Psychology credential by August 1, 2027, or state credential authorizing school psychology
  • Demonstrated experience providing assessment, intervention and consultation services, especially in culturally responsive ways that serve a racially, culturally, linguistically and socioeconomically diverse clientele
  • Demonstrated potential for, or existing record of, published scholarship and an ongoing program of research in a school psychology-relevant domain
  • Demonstrated potential for effectiveness and excellence in university teaching with ethnically, racially, and/or linguistically diverse students
  • Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population, including low socioeconomic and first-generation students

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following areas informed by an equity lens: psychoeducational assessment, consultation, problem-solving for assessment and intervention for academic, behavioral and mental-health needs, and systems change
  • Demonstrated experience teaching school psychology courses at the graduate level
  • Experience advising students on research projects
  • Potential for obtaining external funding or school psychology research projects and/or training grants
  • Demonstrated experience with academic or program coordination
  • Demonstrated effectiveness or potential to contribute to the College of Education’s focus on equity in urban education
  • Demonstrated experience supervising students in fieldwork or in a clinical setting
  • Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and/or NASP PREPaRE Trainer
  • Experience successfully working with populations demographically and/or socioeconomically similar to the CSULB student body
  • Experience mentoring or supporting students using inclusive and culturally relevant teaching strategies in a diverse classroom

Duties:

  • Teach core courses in the Education Specialist in School Psychology program. Courses may include, but are not limited to: Measurement, Problem-solving Psychoeducational Assessment, School-based Mental and Behavioral Health, Consultation, School Crisis Planning, Behavioral Assessment and Intervention, Academic Assessment and Intervention, Fieldwork Supervision. [Mode of instruction may include in-person, hybrid, online and/or any combination thereof.]
  • Contribute to the College of Education commitment statement to foster diversity, equity and inclusion in teaching, research, and service
  • Engage in program-related service activities such as assessing comprehensive portfolios, advising students, serving on thesis committees, contributing to program meetings, accreditation and assisting with admissions to the program
  • Provide culturally-responsive and equity-informed academic advising and mentoring to students
  • Participate in service to the department, college, university, and community
  • Establish and sustain an active record of research and scholarly publication

  1. The program received a 3.9-million-dollar grant to train diverse school psychologists to provide mental health services in schools.
  2. The program currently has an OSEP funded interdisciplinary training grant1.
  3. The Community Clinic for Counseling and Educational Services (CCES) provides state-of-the-art on-site (and remote) training spaces for students taking courses in counseling, academic interventions, psychoeducational assessment (including early childhood) and transition services for youth ages 14 – 22 with disabilities. The clinic is also home to Think Beach, an Inclusive Post-Secondary Education program for young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  4. The students of the CSULB School Psychology program are incredibly diverse and engaged, see their SPSA website.
