Job Summary
Reporting to the Director of Resources and Operations and working in close collaboration with the college management team and department chairs/directors and Facilities Development and Operations (FD&O), the College’s Director of Technology and Facilities is responsible for oversight of technology, all college facilities including the Hammer Theatre, and the supervision of technical staff members throughout the College. Such responsibilities shall include: consulting and collaborating with FD&O to identify facility maintenance and improvement needs including resulting projects or services, interfacing with FD&O, including Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S), and other relevant on- and off-campus units as needed with regard to college facilities, hazardous materials inspections and compliance, tech staff performance management, support of academic units for technology equipment purchases and strategic direction.
Key Responsibilities
- The Director shall interface with individuals, including SJSU faculty, staff, and students regarding facility’s needs inclusive of daily operations, assessment of needs, and planning for improvements
- Addresses concerns and resolves problems by working effectively within appropriate university and labor structures
- Works effectively with staff, volunteers, and students to ensure mitigation of risk and adherence to policies and SJSU's facilities procedures
- Works collaboratively and in partnership with FD&O concerning provision of normal maintenance and repair activities as well as planning and execution of projects by the FD&O team
- Supervise, develop and mentor technical support staff in the College; ensure compliance with collective bargaining agreements, effective staff training, influence and inspire staff, manage performance, approve time-off requests, work with chairs on performance evaluations
- The director is responsible for technology and facilities related fiscal management, including working collaboratively on an ongoing basis with the Dean and relevant managers to develop and maintain financial, health, safety, and administrative procedures in accordance with university policies
- Director executes relevant day-to-day financial transactions through university finance systems in consultation with relevant stakeholders
- Engage in creative problem solving and process improvements

- Demonstrates current knowledge and competency regarding humanities and arts facilities needs and rules related to health and safety codes and compliance
- Demonstrates strong written and verbal communication skills, including both quantitative and qualitative analysis
- Extensive knowledge in supervising and mentoring support staff, writing performance evaluations, performance improvement plans, and managing performance
- Ability to interact effectively with chairs/directors, faculty, students, volunteers, staff, and community members
- Demonstrated organizational awareness and clear communication about administrative policies, procedures, and business practices to ensure successful staff oversight and support
- Current knowledge of collective bargaining agreements in the CSU system
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills and demonstrated ability to assess needs and creatively solve problems in a collaborative environment, working with department chairs, the dean, faculty, staff, vendors, and other relevant stakeholders in an effective manner
- Demonstrates commitment to effective, respectful conflict resolution, an ongoing ability to mitigate risk and the ability to stay up to date with current regional and national trends in college technology and facilities as they relate to humanities and arts disciplines
- General knowledge and understanding of California building codes and life/safety/hazmat/and environmental regulations applicable in an educational setting
- Ability to communicate effectively and work harmoniously with a diverse group of individuals at all levels within and outside of the organization. Work often involves often requires active problem solving and effective interpersonal skills
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and serve as a liaison with other departments and individuals across the campus. To include supporting and cooperating with any outside regulatory agency
- Ability to foster teamwork by maintaining a positive, cooperative, productive work atmosphere while establishing effective working relationships within a diverse population and with those from various cultural backgrounds
- Ability to operationalize sustainability concepts (economic justice, social justice, environmental justice) into all aspects of performing job duties
- Ability to analyze and respond appropriately to emergency situations including assisting campus emergency responders as requested
Required Qualifications
- BA degree in a relevant field
- Ten (10) years of demonstrated experience and success in responsible roles managing support staff, hazmat and safety inspections, fiscal and risk management, technology purchases, upgrades, and maintenance for visual and performing arts and humanities
Compensation
Classification: Administrator II
Anticipated Hiring Range: $10,000/month - $11,250/month
CSU Salary Range: $5,053/month - $16,221/month
The final hiring salary will be commensurate with experience.
