Job Summary

Working independently under the general supervision of the University Police Department Patrol Bureau Commander, the Lead Housing Security Officer is responsible for providing a safe and productive environment for housing residents and staff and protection of housing resources. This position also provides work lead direction to other security officers, monitors performance, and performs administrative duties. The Lead Housing Security Officer partners with University Police Officers for incident response, emergency preparedness and security concerns. In addition, the Lead Housing Security Officer will act as liaison between Housing Security, Housing Staff and University Police.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Address Housing concerns as requested by University Housing Services Staff and directed by University Police
  • Encourage compliance with Housing policies
  • Report suspected hazards and criminal behavior
  • Provide assistance to residents and staff as requested
  • Respond to calls for services
  • Checks-in regularly with Building Desk during shift
  • Go on rounds with a building RA
  • Provide safety escorts to residents   
  • Monitor parking garage in Campus Village B and issue citations as appropriate for unauthorized vehicles
  • Perform foot patrol of Housing buildings and grounds
  • Monitor Housing conditions and provide work direction to Housing Security Officers
  • Provide training to newly hired security officers and prepare training reports (DOR)
  • Train and guide housing security officers in the preparation of incident reports
  • Monitor training needs of housing security officers and work with the operations Captain to obtain training
  • Recommend initiatives and changes to improve the quality of service provided by the housing security unit
  • Act as a liaison between UPD and housing staff during ongoing incidents
  • Coordinate with UPD and Building Emergency Teams for emergency response
  • Meet with Housing Administration to review building security issues and concerns
  • Assist in the development and implementation of security policies and procedures

After appointment, Lead Housing Community Service Officers must successfully complete the appropriate training program designed by the University Police Department.

The Lead Housing Community Service Officer must have the ability to walk, stand, sit, see in appropriate color vision, hear in an appropriate range of sounds, balance, climb, twist, bend, and reach with hands and arms. Assignments will require standing, sitting, or walking for lengthy periods of time, and may be indoors or outdoors. Employees may be exposed to physical and verbal abuse where considerable self-control must be exercised. Some of the work may require considerable physical exertion and viewing of surveillance monitor equipment.

The work environment is a multi-story building, exterior walkways, and access ways. Any indoor assignment may require standing, sitting, or walking for lengthy periods of time. Employees may be exposed to weather conditions and outdoor temperatures. Employees may be exposed to physical and verbal abuse where considerable self-control must be exercised.  Some of the work may require considerable physical exertion and viewing of surveillance monitor equipment. Incumbents are assigned to shift work and rotated among various assignments.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Valid California Driver’s License

 

License

A valid driver's license is required for this position. Out of state candidates selected for the position must obtain a State of California driver's license within 10 days of hire in accordance with the California Department of Motor Vehicles regulations.

Once hired the employee must successfully complete the Defensive Driver Training Program provided by the State of California for California State University campuses.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Three (3) years of Residential Security experience
  • Customer Service Experience
  • Strong written communication skills

 

Compensation

Classification: Community Service Specialist II
Anticipated Hiring Salary: $5,309/month
CSU Salary Range: $3,794/month - $5,956/month
